The GLMC Rider of the Year points chase is designed to reward performance and participation on all facets of motorcycle riding.    From timed road enduros to off-road poker runs the GLMC event calendar offers fun and frivolity to all who participate.    Points are awarded at each event based on riders finishing rank or their volunteer efforts.

      The season starts off February 20th at the Popcycle Derby with a maximum of 25 points.    This timed road enduro is held on the streets of Watertown SD and will be held no matter what the weather does.    Competitors are let loose at 1 minute increments and follow a prescribed course at a preset speed to hopefully arrive at each checkpoint within a 1 minute window.    For each minute they are early they receive a 2 point penalty, for each minute late a 1 point penalty.

      Then on to the start of the Titanic Grand Tour for a maximum of 50 points.    This event commemorates the great ship Titanic by sending riders to visit towns that end in 'berg' or 'Ton'.    As the flyer says, "it only took one Berg to bring down 46,000 tons."    How any Tons will your Berg bring down?    The event starts on April 14th and ends September 15th.    See the Grand Tour home page for more information.

      The next event is the Off-road Poker Run on April 25th held at the GLMC Off-road Trail Area near South Shore SD.    This 50 point off-road event can be either a casual day of off-road riding, or a brutal test of rider and machine depending on your mood.    Cards are handed out after each 2 mile lap of the trail.    After 5 laps a new hand starts.

      Next up on Memorial Day weekend is the 12 hour 55 point Bonzai Road Rally.    The Bonzai is the GLMCs longest running event and is best known for being unpredictable.    The roads of Wisconsin and MN are featured for this event.    See the Bonzai page for more details and entry form.

      Then we're off to the Buffalo 1000 Road Rally on July 24th.    The Buffalo run will be a 24 hour event this year though still a 55 point event just like previous years.    It will be based out of Montevideo MN and celebrates the prairie and prairie people.

      The punts chase then takes an odd turn with the 25 point Barn Bike Buildoff.    On August 21st.    For this event competitors drag their old forgotten bikes out of the barn and get them road ready for a day long ride.    A series of challenges are waiting along the route with points awarded for each.    At the end of the ride points are tallied and a second hand bowling trophy will be awarded to the winner.    Will there be road racing challenges?    Flat track?    Hill climb?    Moto cross?    No one knows till the minute the challenge begins.

      On September 5th we have a new Non point's event in the MAC Group Bun Burner Gold World Record Attempt and Poker Run.    Also known as the MACGBBGRAPR.    This Ride wills tart early on the morning of September 5th, travel from Watertown SD up to Fargo ND, then we'll hang a left and ride on to Billings Montana before turning left and riding to Rapid City SD.    From there we continue on to Sioux Falls SD and then back to Watertown.    This is a 24 hour 1500 mile ride and is only open to those who have completed at least a Saddlesore 1000 prior to the date of the event.

      Next we get back to the Ride of the Year points chase for the end of the GLMC Titanic Grand Tour on September 15th.    All photos must be submitted by then.

      The GLMC riding season then finished up on October 2nd at the Harvest Road Rally in Albany MN.    This 12 hour road rally gives riders a chance to enjoy the beautiful Fall colors of Minnesota.    After the event is over, the Rider of the Year points are totaled up and the fabulous Piston Cup is awarded.    See you all there.
